A new era begins now as Mrs. Linda Ramthun, yours truly, is actually blogging for the school website. I know this will be a very useful tool for me and for parents once we all become accustomed to its potential. I'm looking forward to being a blogger, if indeed I have figured out precisely what blogging is!
We have now spent the better part of two weeks in the second grade classroom, and the kids are getting used to the routines and procedures. I admit that it's always hard to remember how much time things can take at the beginning of the year that are simply second nature later in the year. Right now I find that we can't get quite as much done most days as I've planned, but when it doesn't take as much time to, for example, get our papers ready to do the assignment, we'll be able to get farther each day. I need to remember that all these things are new to all of the second graders, and we will continue to ease into the year. Before we know it, we'll be cruising right along.
I'd like to thank you for allowing the children their independence in the mornings. They are taking care of their morning responsibilities very nicely, and you know that I stressed how important this is to me.
I realize that there are quite a few things for you as parents to get used to also. Remember that Accelerated Reader is a requirement each month in second grade. We start out very slow, requiring only two points in September, but your child should not stop at two points if they are quite capable of earning more by reading more books. If you have any questions about Accelerated Reader (AR), let me know.
Well, was that a blog? I hope so. I'll do it again soon. Linda Ramthun
