Barbara began teaching in 1995 and has been serving at Guardian in various
capacities since 2001. She has a bachelor’s degree, a juris doctor degree, and two
master’s degrees, both in education. One of her favorite things about teaching is having
the opportunity to spark a student’s enthusiasm for learning.
Reading; writing; and visiting museums, National Parks, beaches, and historical
sites are among Barbara’s hobbies and interests. She has written and published articles
on topics, such as Civil War soldiers; hospital-based nursing education; and World War
II bomber mechanics. She also wrote a book, Baby Tigers, for Black Rabbit Books.
Barbara and her husband have two children, both graduates of Guardian and Lutheran
High Westland.
One of her favorite Bible verses is Ephesians 4:32, which begins with “Be kind to
one another. . .” A favorite hymn is “This is My Father’s World.” The verse and hymn
both set forth simple, everyday ideas that Barbara uses to help show students God’s
love.
